У даній роботі  аналізуються причини відмінностей англійської мови в таких англомовних країнах як Великобританія, США та Канада.

Об’єктом дослідження в цій роботі є мовні варіанти і діалектна мова різних англомовних країн.

Мета роботи: ознайомитися із характерними особливостями існуючих діалектів і варіантів англійської мови.

З поставленої мети випливають такі завдання: з’ясувати, як історія, географія впливали на формування діалектів, варіантів англійської мови; окреслити основні відмінності варіантів та діалектів від загальноприйнятих стандартів.

Методи дослідження: аналіз спеціальної літератури відомих  авторів-лінгвистів, таких як Білл Брайсон, Джон Джозеф, Дженні Чешир, Вільям Лабов і додаткової інформації зі Словника американської англійської та Оксфордського словника англійської мови.

Провівши дослідження, ми прийшли до висновків, що у вивченні іноземної мови не слід обмежуватися лише стандартом, адже він властивий тільки для невеликої частини англомовного населення. Кожний носій мови володіє  певними діалектними структурами як усній, так і в письмовій мові. Щоб зрозуміти причини таких відмінностей, ми маємо поглиблювати свої знання з даної теми.

Do you speak English? American? British? Or Canadian? Have you ever thought why English language can be so different, that sometimes people hardly understand each other just because they are from different parts of a country?

As I like to watch English TV programs and films in original, I have interested myself what is the reason of differences in English language around the world.

So, I decided to make a research, which can become a guide to Language and Linguistics aspects. That is the practical purpose, while the main aim for me was regaining more knowledge about the varieties of English because I think that English language can be so multifaceted and various. And, as we can travel and meet new people, this language experience will be absolutely unique. For understanding the variety of English, I have made this work. And I hope I have achieved my aim.

My work is dedicated to the variety of English language. The value of dialects and varieties is in their uniqueness, sometimes they can even become the different language. Dialect also gives you an identity and you lose it starting to sound the same as native speakers

British English

1. Entry

Standard English is considered to be the official language of Great Britain taught at schools and universities. It is used by the press, the radio and the television and spoken by educated people. It may be defined as that form of English which is current and literary, substantially uniform and recognized as acceptable wherever English is spoken or understood. Its vocabulary is contrasted to dialect words or dialectisms belonging to various local dialects. Local dialects are varieties of the English language peculiar to some districts and having no normalized literary form. Regional varieties possessing a literary form are called variants. In Great Britain there are two variants, Scottish English and Irish English, and five main groups of dialects: Northern, Midland, Eastern, Western and Southern. Every group contains several (up to ten) dialects.
