Introduction
The theme of the given diploma paper is “Word-Building through Clipping. Semantic and Pragmatic Aspects”.
The objective of the paper is to investigate a rather specific process of forming new words in the English language by means of contraction.
Quite a few works are dedicated to the above mentioned subject. Basically, the information about this is included in general lexicology of the English word-formation. Thus, the presented theoretical survey is of great importance and well-timed taking into account the fact that a great many innovations appeared in the English language during the last decade of the XX century. Besides, it evokes constant interest of linguists because of the globalization and vast spreading of significance of English in every sphere of modern life and interosculation of world cultures.
