Monolouge on Trends
Gianni Versace once said not to set into trends, not to make fashion own you, but
you decide what you are. However, nowadays lots of people increasingly following
trends. But what exactly is a trend?
The very concept of trend is used in different areas, but the meaning is always
approximately the same: the main direction at the moment. But this does not mean
that the trend appears naturally and everything led to this. Often trend is an
overnight sensation or they revive past trends which helps them to grab the
headlines.
Dick Clark once said that he just found out what trends are and exploited them. I
think businesses must adhere to this rule. If they want to be one step ahead their
competitors, they should follow emerging trends, especially those that move
rapidly through a population, and not tap into a trend, but exploit it, for example in
a viral marketing campaign to gain sails. Although to use trends that way, you
should understand who your customers are and their spending power.
For most people, trends are closely related to fashion, therefore there are lots of
factors, affecting on fashion trends from not very smart people who make fashion
statement not because they like it, to the opinions of people who are the height of
fashion. But everyone understands perfectly well the sources where fashion trends
come from: from the runway, from street style, through celebrities, through fashion
bloggers, and through the different fashion capitals of the world. I personally think
that the major influence on fashion trends comes from the streets, because people
there wear clothes from a high street fashion store.
As for me, I do not care about trends and I am not aware of social and cultural
movements. I do not have a specific clothing style. I just wear what I like, I have a
lot of various clothes, such as haori, shirts, sweatshirts, turtlenecks and so on. I
have only one must-have
