Monologue on WORK
You are going to give a talk about WORK. | The text of the monologue | Vocabulary, Grammar Structures, Linking Words and Phrases |
Step 1. Introduction 1. Start with a hook sentence that will attract the listener’s attention (a quote, a proverb, etc.). 2. Lead your speech steadily to the main part of your talk. 3. The introduction may consist of 3-6 sentences. | Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life," a famous quote by Confucius, perfectly captures the essence of the conversation we are about to have. Work is an integral part of our lives, shaping our identities and fulfilling our aspirations. It influences our happiness, relationships, and sense of purpose. Today, I want to explore various aspects of work, including our ideal jobs, the rising trend of homeworking, and the importance of creative thinking when it comes to professional fulfillment.
Step 2. Jobs 2.1 Which of the jobs you know would you like to do? Which wouldn’t you like to do? Why? 2.2 What are the most important things for you in your future job? | When considering different jobs, the spectrum of options is vast. Personally, I am drawn to the idea of working in the field of environmental conservation, as it aligns with my passion for preserving the natural world. Conversely, I would not be inclined to work in an industry that goes against my values or involves compromising ethics. The most crucial elements for me in a future job would be purpose, growth, and the chance to make a positive impact on the world. At the same time, financial stability is also important, but it should not be the sole focus of a job. A healthy work environment, a good work-life balance, and opportunities for personal and professional development are all equally significant for my future job. I believe that finding a job that aligns with my values and passions, and provides room for growth and learning, is essential for long-term satisfaction and fulfillment.
Step 3. Homeworking 3.1 Speak about the reasons for homeworking, the advantages and disadvantages of working from home. 3.2 Would you like to work from home? What would be the advantages/disadvantages for you? | The concept of homeworking, or remote work, has gained momentum in recent years, especially with the technological advancements that enable it. Reasons for homeworking include the pursuit of a better work-life balance, the convenience of eliminating a daily commute, and the flexibility it offers. However, there are also downsides, including potential feelings of isolation, distractions at home, and difficulties in maintaining work-life boundaries. If given the option, I would appreciate the flexibility that comes with homeworking but recognize the potential challenges it may pose. I thrive in environments that encourage collaboration and social interaction, so the prospect of prolonged isolation could be a concern for me. However, I do see the advantages of avoiding a long commute and having increased flexibility in terms of managing personal and professional tasks.
Step 4. CREATIVE THINKING Introduce your own extra idea(s) on work that hasn’t/haven’t been mentioned before. Justify your choice. | Beyond traditional job roles and homeworking, I believe there are innovative approaches to work that are worth exploring. One such idea is "job crafting," where individuals actively reshape and redesign their job to align with their strengths, passions, and personal development goals. This proactive approach allows individuals to create a more personalized and fulfilling work experience, ultimately leading to greater job satisfaction and performance.
Step 5. Conclusion Summarise the ideas of steps 2, 3, 4. | To sum up, our ideal job should resonate with our values and offer opportunities for growth and personal fulfillment. While homeworking offers flexibility, it presents challenges such as maintaining work-life balance and preventing feelings of isolation. Embracing innovative concepts like job crafting can significantly impact our job satisfaction and overall well-being. Ultimately, work should be a source of purpose, personal growth, and enable us to make a positive contribution to the world. Thank you for your attention. |
