STAFF MOTIVATION IN IT-SPHERE

Мотивация персонала в IT-сфере

Information technologies are the most sought-after specialty in the labor market. Employers are looking for smart efficient IT-specialists. Employers are trying to offer employees not only financial, but non-material benefits. Employees in the IT-industry are highly qualified specialists, mainly focused on interesting, challenging tasks, using new technologies in their work, sharing experience and looking forward to professional growth.

Purpose: to find out how the motivation of IT-workers contributes to the improvement of their efficiency. To answer the question: how to motivate IT-workers and how it reflects on efficiency of their work.

Ways to motivate employees are divided into tangible and intangible ones. The ways of non-material motivation are especially important, as many companies are financially able to support employees, but not all can provide a positive relations in the team.

A research was conducted by the Unity recruitment agency in early 2016. It showed what attracts IT-people more than money. The results were as follows: 1) Interesting projects, 2) Team, 3) Leadership, 4) Location and comfort of the office.

The main value to IT-professional is self-realization and the ability to be creative in solving problems. However for employer, individual approach is important when holding personnel. Companies find out candidates’ hidden interests, try to adapt projects for a specific person.

Also IT-specialists appreciate the opportunity to work in a team of professionals. Communication with colleagues for them is another way to get the right experience. However, despite the fact that it is important for programmers to be part of a team of like-minded people, they tend to work more independently.

IT-professionals must have such quality as a leader. The IT-sphere is rather isolated, it has its own rules, its own style of communication, its specific interests, and a competent leader can become an effective motivational factor for people. Most specialists have their own opinion on how to organize the processes, and in order to attract a professional. You need to let him/her understand that the company welcomes dialogues with management and initiative. It is important to demonstrate a spirit of teamwork, to show that everyone can participate in decision making.
