One language spoken worldwide would lead to better international relations
Nowadays, there are a little more than seven thousand languages in the world, as for me, it's hard to imagine all people speaking only one language. It seems to me that it is impossible to create or choose one universal language. Would international relations be easier if there was only one language? In this essay I am supposed to dwell on this problem.
To start with, there are those who are convinced that universal language could provide some advantages. It is often believed that it would be easier to work and study abroad, and international cooperation would function more effectively.
Furthemore, speaking in the same language all over the world is that your communication would be easier. We will not worry about language barrier and we can express ourselves freely in the expected words. Single language gives us a chance to improve our communication skills without being apprehensive when using words.
On the other hand, different language is a different vision of life. Our languages illustrate our way of thinking and understanding reality. It is a fact that history has produced many examples of the creation of international languages, but in most cases these are have been attempts to deepen our sense of national identity. Taking Esperanto, one of the most famous international languages, as an example, despite the fact that about one hundred thousand people speak this language, musicians sing songs and make films in this language, it is not enough to achieve the status of an international language.
What is more, communicating by one language would lead to a lack of local cultures and the disappearance of the concept of 'international' and 'internal' relations. Therefore our languages should be consider as the significant part of our cultures for which we should give special protection.
In general, it`s used to think, that if all the people spoke one language there would be less problems concerning understanding between different nations. Owing to a serious lack of understanding among people would vanish on the grounds that everybody would be able to use one language, and it will lead to a peaceful and calm life, but in fact, based on the current situation, we understand that even knowledge of a same language doesn`t make life peaceful.
Taking everything into consideration, I would like to say, that one language is not a basis for peaceful relations. The absence of a language barrier is undoubtedly good, but what is the point? It is much more pleasant to immerse yourself in another culture, learning the language and thus better understand other people.
