Essay “That Sugar Film” by Zhamoidz Lizaveta, group 214
Everyone and everything knows about the dangers of sugar, this refined product, but how difficult it is sometimes to refuse it, because this product causes addiction akin to a drug, besides, it has become so firmly established in our daily life that we don’t even know about the fact that most of the products, even the most unexpected ones, are stuffed with them, invitingly beckoning to themselves from the shelves of numerous stores.
The film “That Sugar Film”, lasting a little less than two hours, is a kind of experiment by a specific person, which clearly shows what happens to the body with regular use of sugar in everyday life.
Damon Gameau, a healthy man, takes on the challenge to live for 60 days consuming processed food that could be expected to be reasonably healthy, but with at least 40 teaspoons of 'hidden' sugar per day. Although he consumes a similar level of calories per day, the difference that a highly sugar rich energy source has on him is disturbing. How so much sugar can be hidden in foods that many people would assume are generally 'healthy' is disturbing.
A team of medical experts perform the necessary tests for him in advance that establish a baseline for blood function, enzyme levels, liver function, weight, etc. Comparison 60 days later is daunting. Basically, he face with fatty liver, which causes diabetes and heart disease.
Hugh Jackman's sand art on the history of sugar is the first of many little treats that make up this reckless journey of discovery that's guaranteed to break your eating habits. With food corporations more in denial than the tobacco industry, products labeled "fat-free" or "100% natural" are clear signs.
Of course, it's not just sugar that's to blame for our health problems, but we need to start by reducing our intake. Refined sugar and excess fructose harm the health and well-being of millions of people around the world. The experiment carried out clearly proved this.
That Gamo's story about high fructose foods being cynically sold to us at the cost of our health is shocking. The film also touches on the topic of obesity, behavioral problems in children, and even undermines the foundations of consumerism.
As propaganda, That Sugar Film is often powerfully effective, going in especially hard against soft drink manufacturers, and exposing some of the dubious claims of the health food industry.
The film is shot in a fascinating manner and looks in one breath, and certainly makes you think. Perhaps after watching the movie "That Sugar Film", someone will really change their diet, making a choice in favor of healthier food. I advise you to look at those people who want to get rid of cravings for the drug - sugar. After all, it is quite possible to live a long and happy life without it.
