INTRODUCTION
Proper names are important for communication and mutual understanding of people. Unlike common words, they tend to be universally usable. In any language, the proper name will sound the same, irrespectively of language barriers. Therefore, it is considered that names and titles do not require a special approach when translating from foreign languages, although this is misleading. Proper names in their original language environment have a complex semantic structure, unique features of form and etymology, abilities for modification and word formation, numerous connections with other units and categories of language. When translating a name into another language, most of these properties are lost.
Of special interest in the study of proper names is the work of Joan Rowling. Her fantasy novel about "Harry Potter" is full of multiple proper names, which carry a markedly expressed semantic load, have a peculiar sound appearance. The author's proper names play a special role, they are used to strengthen the character, intrigue, conflict, comic situation or can characterize the qualities of a person, his occupation, social status.
The names of characters in works of art are the most expressive and normative means that determine a significant amount of implicit information.
Currently, there are a large number of translations of Harry Potter novels, which is due to the desire of translators to present the reader a new interpretation of the original. The work of Rowling is largely saturated with proper names. However, the opinions of translators on how they should be translated are very different: many aspects of the translation of proper names in the texts of this category continue to be not fully understood, and the apparent disagreement observed in their transmission undoubtedly influences the quality of translations.
Despite the fact that many scientists considered the problem of translating of proper names (O.I. Fonyakova, A.V. Fedorov, S.I. Zinin), the issue of transferring proper names in works of art to different languages is still not up to end studied. This is the reason for the relevance of this work.
The object of the study is proper names and their classification.
The subject of the study is the translation of proper names in the novel "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling.
The aim of the work is to carry out a comparative analysis of two texts and to find out which method of translation is used to translate real, semi-real and fictitious names from English into Russian in the novel "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling.
Achieving this goal implies the solution of the following tasks:
-to study the theoretical material concerning the problem of translation of proper names;
-to classify proper names in the context of the work of art;
-to conduct a comparative analysis of proper names on the example of English and Russian translations of books "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling.
The scientific novelty of the work is to carry out a comparative analysis of the
