  1. The role of mass media in teaching the English language

Political, economic, and social integration, which has significantly increased, calls for the engagement of more experts in many domains of science and technology. As a result, the current situation places new demands on the capacity to communicate in a foreign language. In order to train students to adapt to a changing environment, new methods and alternative approaches were required. Additionally, students needed to be given a set of core competences that would not only be the product of their learning but also serve as a foundation for their future development.

People are accustomed to receiving new information on a constant basis because they live in the digital world. This knowledge has emerged in a number of areas, including politics, economics, and education. All of this offers the chance to fulfill a variety of human wants.

An individual gets fresh knowledge about what is happening every day. Although it can be written or spoken, the major sources of information are radio, television, newspapers, or the Internet, which are all included under the umbrella term "mass media." The phrase "mass media" is a translation of the French "moyens d'information de masse," which was first used in 1970. Despite the fact that in French it nearly became obsolete in the second half of the 1960s, the term began to be pushed into the country under the pretext of innovation.

Mass media are described as "communications media in general: all of the communications media that reach a large audience, especially television, radio, and newspapers" in the Encarta dictionary (www.Microsoft.com).[1] Similar to this, A.S. Hornby describes mass media as "information and news sources that reach and affect a vast number of people, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, and television." When these media are used properly in the classroom, the pupils are equipped and motivated. This is because they encourage student engagement and make him feel like he is learning a genuine language. The level of passion that students have when they hear a lecture on the radio or watch it on television is amazing. This helps to further close the gap between the classroom and the actual world while also preparing the student for it.

"Media provide huge information, they motivate students to speak, and they help them integrate listening, reading, talking, and writing skills, through various kinds of activities," claims V. Tafani [2](https://dppd.ubbcluj.ro/adn/article).

In his conclusion, he states that using mass media in the teaching “is important because it develops students’ creative powers for those images, words and sounds that come to the students from various Media”.

In other words, the media is any data that is gathered, processed, and evaluated from sources like newspapers, radio, television, the Internet, etc., that is widely accessible and has a large audience. As a result, the media may be used in a variety of contexts and fields of endeavor.

The role played by the media in education generally and the teaching of the English language in particular becomes extremely significant in this regard.

Every day, an increasing amount of mass media is used in the sphere of education, particularly in classes of foreign languages. Information technologies have provided teachers the chance to employ a variety of media to improve the linguistic environment in their classroom, hasten learning, enhance assimilation, and pique students' interest in the subject being studied.

The development of oral communication abilities is essential not only for increasing motivation to study a foreign language, but it also has a significant impact on the growth of all sorts of mental activity.

When thinking about how to teach oral speech, it's important to keep in mind that it's a complex two-way process that includes the ability to speak English and the capacity to comprehend other people's speech. It's also closely related to the development and improvement of lexical and grammatical skills, as well as the capacity to use them for the creation of unprepared speech.

It should be mentioned that without the use of efficient, cutting-edge, and accessible learning tools, it is challenging to master spoken foreign language communication. Currently, these are the mainstream media (print, radio, television). Borders and distances are being overcome, information is reaching a multilingual audience directly, and a global communicative space is being developed as a result of the mass media.

Contemporary standards for learning a foreign language include not just proficiency in the language's vocabulary and syntax but also an understanding of the cultural quirks and customs of the nation from which the language is being learned. The study of spoken language in English press is valuable because of this. Students can learn new vocabulary and hone their phonetic skills in a "live" foreign language by reading a newspaper article or listening to audio or video materials. They can also become familiar with the language's features, comprehend the complexity of the context, learn the lexical characteristics of particular words, and learn the specifics of the translation of speech constructions. This approach is also highly effective from the standpoint of encouraging students to learn the language by giving them the chance to get familiar with the reality of life in the nation being studied.
