Some people believe that it is more important to teach children the literature of their own country than other countries. Do you agree or disagree?
It is argued by some people that local literature is more important in children's education than foreign literature. I don’t feel the same. Personally speaking, I believe that both types of literature play equal roles in the development of children.
On the one hand, teaching national literature at school has a lot of advantages. Firstly, the local literature helps students expand their vocabulary and improve their native language skills. They can learn grammar, formal language, also by learning local literature, young students can better understand and appreciate the history of where they were born.
For instance, through traditional literature, namely fairy tales, legends and fables, students can become familiar with their traditions, native terms and also national values which have been passed down from generation to generation. As a result, they will naturally develop a sense of national identity and patriotism
On the other hand, it is also necessary to teach literature works of other countries. First of all, if students have the opportunity to get to know the culture and traditions of other nations, this will expand their horizons. Seeing the bigger picture of the world around them, they will have many different views on the same issue. All of this will help them better prepare for the globalized world. Moreover, by learning the practices and literature of others, children will not see their race as a superior race and accept others as equals.
In conclusion, it seems to me there is a need to teach both national and international literature should be applied in the school’s curriculum so that students can develop comprehensively.
