Individual and psychological qualities of the coach.
Patience. Patience is the ability to treat someone else's opinion, character, and habits with understanding, tolerance, condescension, without prejudice and hostility. Training participants can be divided according to age, physical and psycho-emotional characteristics, which have their own characteristics. There should be a separate approach to each of group members, which requires the ability of the coach to patiently apply strategies and methods of the training process.
Flexibility. Flexibility is the variety and adequacy of human behavior, which is manifested by internal mental forms of intellectual activity. Flexibility, as an integral characteristic of a person, involves a harmonious combination of three interrelated and mutually determining personal qualities: emotional, behavioral and intellectual. The coach needs to behave reasonably, risky as well as adequately and effectively in training and communication with participants.
Erudition. Erudition – is deep awareness, well-readness, knowledge of issues in a certain field of science. Erudition is acquired through persistent learning, systematic getting of knowledge, analysis of theoretical and practical experience. Professional knowledge is not enough for the successful work of a coach. A coach should expand the boundaries of the general horizon in order to maintain the process with group members.
Self-discipline. Self-discipline of the coach is the ability to follow the necessary schedule, to plan his activities, to show consistency and concentration in behavior.
Motivation. Motivation is characterized by stable motives, urges that determine the content, direction and character of a coach's activity and behavior. One of the main factors in achieving the goal, training efficiency and being satisfied with the process is the motivation. Motivation is directly related to the planning and involvement of the coach in the training process. The level of motivation of the training participants depends on the coach.
Optimism. Optimism is characterized by cheerfulness, belief in good result. It is advisable to prepare training in a good mood, especially if the group members lack a positive attitude towards the training. If the coach has a positive attitude, participants will feel in the same way.
Personal qualities of the coach.
Being concentrated on the participants. Creating good relationships with participants is an important part of a coach's work, and being friendly and approachable is one of the main characteristics of a good coach.
Having the desire and ability to help the client. It is important to respond to the non-verbal signals of the group members.
Being tolerant to other point of view. You should never argue with the participants, since the dissatisfaction of one of them can spread to others. There are several useful phrases that help defuse the situation at the right moment, for example: "In my experience" (it's hard to argue with personal experience), "I understand that this is your personal opinion", "I agree that there may be exceptions , for example..." etc.
