In this presentation I will demonstrate how I would teach transport vocabulary to learners. I chose this topic because transport vocabulary is practical, easy to visualize, and closely connected with everyday life.

2 слайд

While presenting transport vocabulary, I would combine several teaching methods to make the explanation clear and memorable.

First, I would use pictures because visual support helps learners understand the meaning of words faster. Transport vocabulary is especially suitable for this method because the words describe concrete objects.

I would also explain words through simple definitions and context sentences. For example, instead of only translating a word, I would show how it is used in communication.

Another important stage is pronunciation practice. Learners would repeat the words after me individually and together in order to improve pronunciation and stress.

I would also ask concept-checking questions to make sure learners understand the meanings correctly. In addition, I would divide the vocabulary into categories such as land, air, and water transport because grouping words helps memorization.

First, I would introduce land transport vocabulary. I divided the words into categories because grouping vocabulary helps students memorize it more easily.

I would show pictures of each type of transport and pronounce every word clearly. After that students would repeat the words chorally and individually.

For example:

  • car;
  • bus;
  • bicycle;
  • motorcycle;
  • train;
  • tram;
  • taxi.

I would explain the meaning of each word using simple English definitions and examples from everyday life.

Then I would ask checking questions such as:

  • “Which transport has two wheels?”
  • “Which transport moves on rails?”
  • “Which transport is public transport?”

These questions help students understand vocabulary actively instead of memorizing translations mechanically.

Next, I would move to air transport vocabulary.

I would introduce the following words:

  • airplane;
  • helicopter;
  • airport;
  • pilot;
  • passenger.

To explain these words, I would use pictures and simple context sentences. For example: “A pilot controls an airplane.” “A passenger travels in a vehicle.”

I would also ask students personal questions to increase motivation and speaking practice:

  • “Have you ever travelled by airplane?”
  • “Which is faster: a train or an airplane?”

Using personal experience makes vocabulary learning more engaging.

After that, I would introduce water transport vocabulary:

  • ship;
  • boat;
  • ferry;
  • port.

I would compare similar words because students often confuse them. For example, I would explain that a ship is usually larger than a boat.

I would encourage students to describe pictures and make simple sentences using the new vocabulary. Speaking practice helps students remember words better.

At the next stage, I would introduce additional travel vocabulary:

  • traffic;
  • traffic lights;
  • ticket;
  • station.

I would explain these words through real-life situations because students hear them frequently in everyday communication.

I would also teach simple collocations such as:

  • traffic jam;
  • buy a ticket;
  • train station.

Teaching vocabulary in phrases helps students use words more naturally.

For the first activity, I would use picture matching because visual association helps learners memorize vocabulary more effectively.
