I. INTRODUCTION
The state is a complex political organization that represents the unity of essence, content and form. Just as there are no two identical plants in nature, so there are no two identical states in society. And in order to reveal the modern political map of the world, such a concept as the form of the state is necessary. Since the time of Ancient Greece, the concept of the form of the state was given great importance, Roman lawyers said: "Form gives being to a thing." The concept of form allows us to determine how the state apparatus is structured, who governs the country, what is the relationship between parts of the state and the political center, what methods are used to exercise power. The form of the state depends on many factors, among which are the historical conditions of the emergence and development of the state, the traditions and customs of a particular country, territorial size and ethnic composition. The theory of state and law has developed models of forms of political regimes, forms of government and forms of administrative-territorial structure.
The form of government is the main feature of the state structure of the country, especially at the present stage of development of society, both from a practical and theoretical point of view. Today, the political map of the world does not cease to change - new states appear - existing ones unite, previously dependent ones become sovereign. It is important to determine the forms of new state associations, since this affects not only the internal structure, but also the international position of states and state entities.
In various historical eras, outstanding thinkers and philosophers, such as Plato, Aristotle, J. Locke, I.A. Ilyin, L.A. Tikhomirov, tried to model the best form of government that would be ideal for the life of the people.
The purpose of the work is to consider the existing forms of government and reveal their features.
II. THE CONCEPT OF "FORM OF GOVERNMENT"
Territory, population, power are substantive characteristics of the state that reflect what is common to all states. However, states differ significantly from each other in terms of their internal organization, which is expressed in the concept of "form of state".
