Some experts claim that learning a foreign language at primary school is more beneficial than learning it at secondary school. This essay will examine the pros and cons of studying a language at primary school, and demonstrate the benefits of this approach outweigh any potential drawbacks.
To begin with, there are several compelling arguments to prove the advantages of learning language at the primary school. Firstly, children have a remarkable ability for language acquisition during their formative years. Their brains highly receptive, making the process more intuitive and less demanding. For example a study conducted by the American Council on the teaching of foreign languages found that students who began to learning a language before the age of 10 were significantly more likely to be better than their counterparts. So despite the possible drawbacks, learning a new language at young age is worth it.
It is important to acknowledge the potential drawbacks. Critics argue that it may place pressure on children in their early years of schooling. They may become overwhelmed by the additional workload. For instance they could struggle to manage their study and time. All of this potentially could lead to stress, burnout or negatively impact their learning experiences. Because of that, it is mandatory to provide a well-balanced curriculum that considers the healthy development of students.
In conclusion, even though there are concerns about the workload of children, the benefits of teaching them a foreign language during primary school are significant. I personally believe that it is a valuable method to enhance the linguistic abilities of children and lay a strong groundwork for their future
