Beowulf
The poem is set in Scandinavia. Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by a monster known as Grendel. After Beowulf slays him, Grendel's mother attacks the hall and is then also defeated. Victorious, Beowulf goes home to Geatland (Götaland in modern Sweden) and later becomes king of the Geats. After a period of fifty years has passed, Beowulf defeats a dragon, but is mortally wounded in the battle. After his death, his attendants cremate his body and erect a tower on a headland in his memory.
Hamlet
Next to Elsinore, the royal palace of the Danish monarchs, the soldiers several times saw a ghost that looks like a recently deceased king. The news reaches the Danish prince Hamlet, and he decides to see the ghost. Meeting him leads Hamlet in horror - a ghost told him that his uncle, the present king, killed him, and wants to take revenge on his son. Hamlet is astonished and confused so much that the court decides that the prince has gone mad, after which Hamlet decides to pretend to be crazy. He is trying to get irrefutable proof of the guilt of Claudius. The king, realizing that Hamlet did not go mad, sends to him his friends - Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, so that they can find out what Hamlet really is up to. But Hamlet, realizing the true purpose of their arrival, does not tell them anything, answering senseless monologues for their inquiries. At that time, a troupe of strolling actors came to Elsinore. Hamlet asks them to stage the play "Murder of Gonzaga", inserting several lines of his work there. Thus, the play will depict the killing of the former king from the words of the ghost. The king closely follows the action of the play and leaves after Hamlet's play kills. After that, Hamlet goes to the queen's quarters and before the conversation kills the royal adviser Polonius, hidden behind the carpet, deciding that this is Claudius. Further, he talks with his mother, reproaching her for marrying Claudia, she insulted her former husband. The king, realizing that Hamlet is dangerous to him, sends him to England, so that he will be executed immediately upon arrival. Prince escapes from this fate and returns to Denmark. Uncle resorts to the already tested reception - poison. Hamlet dies before killing the king. The Danish throne goes to Fortinbras, the Norwegian ruler.
Guliver
In the work of Jonathan Swift, Gulliver is an Englishman, the son of a landowner from Nottinghamshire, the third of five sons. Three years he studied at Cambridge, and four more - a surgeon. He loved traveling, which he did as a ship's doctor, but never managed to demonstrate his medical skills in the wanderings. After three years of service at sea, he married Mary Burton (on the advice of friends), but then, when his financial situation worsened, he again went to sea. Lamuel has the ability for languages. He does not show special adherence to medical matters, most of all he likes sea life. He is a thorough and honest man. He is not subject to any vices, he is very scrupulous in matters of honor, a patriot. Tends to be friendly affection. At the same time he can not be called a thinker, he does not shine with the sharpness of his mind, is limited in his judgments and is inclined to rapture. Gulliver was a man of normal growth and the giant was only in terms of Lilliputians, and then he himself was a midget in Brobdingdine.
