«English in the world today»

English is one of the most popular spoken languages in the world today, and its use is only growing. According to Ethnologue, as of 2021, English is the official language in 67 countries, and the total number of English speakers is about 1.5 billion people. One of the main factors influencing the spread of English is its use as an international language of communication. English is widely used in business, academia, technology and international organizations such as the UN and others.

The development of tourism has made a great contribution to the transformation of the English language into a universal means of communication. However, some linguists are of the opinion that the globalization of English as an international language can cause significant harm to the language itself, since foreigners have a strong influence on its grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

There are many different accents and dialects of the English language in the world today. For example, in North America, English has its own characteristics that distinguish it from British English, which is used in the UK and other countries such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. There are also differences between British and American English in the use of spelling, vocabulary and grammar. However, despite the differences in accents and dialects, English is still the universally recognized language of communication in the world. It is also a key component of intercultural exchange as English is often used to communicate between people from different countries and cultures.

However, at a certain point, development and popularization slowed down significantly. Presumably, the reason for this was that the artificially created language has no history, while English has a rich history and deep roots. After all, great musicians, poets, philosophers talked about it, sang and wrote about it.

That is why today international summits and negotiations are held in English, the study of the world experience of colleagues in various fields and fields, important state documents are signed, meetings of presidents of different countries. International trade relations are conducted in English, the work of the financial and transport systems is carried out.

"Do you speak English?" - this expression can most often be heard from people from different countries trying to find a "common" language. And when an affirmative “Yes” sounds in response, active communication begins between strangers.
