I believe that every educated person has a favorite painter, especially a Russian artist. After all, Russian artists are known all over the world, and are not inferior in talent to Western maestros. If you ask anyone about their favorite painting or artist, you can hear many names of talented painters and beautiful paintings. Some people like small still lifes or portraits, others like paintings of historical themes or landscapes. Each painting is beautiful in its own way, and each artist has his or her own audience most interested in his or her paintings.
However, a person can have many favorite artists, but there is always one that will inspire him, make him feel his paintings, immerse in the described subjects. An artist whose paintings sink deep into the soul. And after you are lucky enough to see them live, you'll think about paintings for a while longer, catch a sense of derealization and enjoyment.
Paintings depicting the sea always make a big impression on people. Looking at them, as if you feel the salty smell of the waves and freedom. The sea attracts with its beauty and endlessness. Perhaps, for these reasons I would like to call Ivan Aivazovsky my favorite artist, the person who inspires me to do art myself.
Although an artist of Armenian descent, he was born in Feodosia. The painter spent most of his life in Crimea, for this reason he painted mainly the Black Sea. And it is especially beautiful in Aivazovsky's night marinas, depicted in the light of the moon. It is so calm and quiet.
But the sea is not always like that. Sometimes it is dangerous and unpredictable. In seconds it can turn into a storm, crash ships on its waves and destroy people's lives. And who else but Aivazovsky know it firsthand. In the 1840s, the artist travelled around Europe, gaining more experience, and painted a lot. And in 1842 Aivazovsky went from Paris to Portugal and Spain. In the Bay of Biscay, the ship on which the artist sailed was caught in a storm and almost sank. Reports of his death appeared in the Paris newspapers, and for some time he was indeed considered dead.
