Аристотель, греческий философ и ученый, считал, что дружба может разделить на три категории: это может быть основано на полезность, удовольствие или добре. В своем последнем состоянии, Аристотель описал его как «одна душа пребывает в двух телах». Во времена Римской империи, Цицерон имел свои собственные убеждения о дружбе.
