1. In paragraph G, Melbourne author Bernard Salt uses a simile where he compares the bush to Melbourne's old-fashioned trams. He says that nobody wants to ride them, but they're a part of the city's heritage, and people love to hear them rattling down the streets just like always. Similarly, Salt explains that the bush occupies a funny sort of place in the Australian psyche. People want to know there are still people leading those picturesque 'Clancy of the Overflow' kinds of lives, even though it's something they'd never do themselves.

2. In paragraph I, the simile is "in my wild erratic fancy, visions come to me of Clancy Gone a-droving 'down the Cooper' where the Western drovers go;". This sentence compares the visions in Paterson's mind to wild and erratic fancies. The two things are similar in that they are both uncontrollable and unpredictable.

C

  1. Paterson got his idea for "Clancy of the Overflow" from a letter that he received from a debtor's lawyer. The letter explained that the debtor, Clancy, had gone to Queensland droving and they did not know where he was.
  2. "Clancy of the Overflow" was published in 1889.
  3. Paterson used the pen name Banjo, which was the name of a racehorse that his family used to own.
  4. About 80% of Australians now live in urban areas.
  5. The number of versions of "Waltzing Matilda" is not mentioned in the text.

D

 1. In Paragraph H, the writer refers to "inconsistencies." Banjo Paterson understood that many Australians had inconsistencies between their romantic vision of the outback and their actual lifestyle. While Australians today are generally urban and enjoy a modern lifestyle, they still hold the outback as an essential part of their national identity.

2. People from different countries often have a romantic vision of another place. I suppose some people in my country have a romantic vision of another place. And what about me, I agree with Banjo Paterson's words that For the drover's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know. There is something mysterious and native in these words for me.

A road can be special for various reasons. Here are some possible factors that could make a road special:

Scenic beauty: A road that offers breathtaking views of natural landscapes, such as mountains, rivers, or forests, can be considered special.

Historical significance: A road that has played an important role in history, such as a route used during a famous battle or a path taken by historical figures, can be special.

Cultural significance: A road that is associated with a particular culture or tradition, such as a pilgrimage route, can be special.

D

Route 66 is called "the mother road" because it was one of the original highways in the United States and was a major route for people migrating westward during the 1930s. It is considered special because it represents a significant part of American history, culture, and identity. Route 66 was once the primary road for those traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles and helped shape the development of the communities along the way. It was also a symbol of freedom and adventure, as it represented the ability to explore and experience the vastness of America. However, the construction of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s and 1960s led to the decline of Route 66 as a major thoroughfare, and many of the small towns along the route fell into economic decline. Despite this, Route 66 remains a popular tourist destination, as people seek to experience the nostalgia and history of this iconic road.
