 It is almost impossible to imagine the world without medicine. Especially medicine is nowadays implemented through the Healthcare Ministry and other private healthcare providers. Though each country has its own way of treating its citizens.

For instance, General practitioners are given a great prominence in the British healthcare system. One cannot consult a doctor of narrow specialization before seeing the GP. The latter examines the patient, identifies the illness, makes an accurate diagnosis and only then decides whether special treatment is needed. Moreover, the British medicine is universal and free to use.

Like the British healthcare system, Russian one also includes some kind of GP who is called a therapist. However, there are some little differences. If person has something wrong, for example, with teeth, he goes straight to the dentist without seeing the therapist. Besides it, provided that the person in Russia has a high temperature, the patient can call a doctor at home.

Another big difference is an availability of the remedy in the pharmacy. Unlike Russian chemist’s stores, the British ones cannot sell drugs that contain an antibiotic to the person without doctor’s prescription. I believe that it could be one of the reasons why people in Russia give preference to home treatment.

To sum up, every country has its own vision for building a healthcare system and none of it is ideal. Each of systems has its pros and cons.

When I was a child, I got a compression fracture of the spine. I was short of breath because another child accidently fell on my back so hard that my lungs clenched. We immediately consulted a surgeon. After the examining my spine, the doctor reassured my parents that no surgery was needed. Then I could do nothing but lie in a hospital bed without any pillow for a month. Since then, to avoid serious complications I should make an appointment with a surgeon, wear a special medical corset and be a regular pool-goer.
